: I am a special education teacher, and I am interested in learning more about the Son-Rise program, even : if it ends up being just for my own professional development and not for use in a classroom. Have there : been any scientific studies showing the positive effects that Son-Rise can have on a child diagnosed with : autism or mental retardation? If so, where can I find them? Can the program cause any negative side effects? : What are the specific similarities and differences between Son-Rise and applied behavior analysis? Could a : program be created as a combination of the two teaching methods? Has anyone tried applied behavior : analysis with their child and not had positive results, then switched to Son-Rise and had much more positive : results? I would like to know more about the program because I am curious and also so I will be able : to answer questions that the parents of students in my class might ask me. Thank you for any help you can : offer! : : -Robyn
Hi Robyn It is good that you take a personal effort in bettering your experienced. I am not a Son-rise person (as yet) but at the school my son is ABA is used. What you as is so broad a subject that it cannot be answered in a message. From what I understand, Son-rise is a program based upon acceptance, love, security, etc., but ABA doesn't take that into account. When I told an ABA guy who did a study on my son (because he has some agg. behavior issues) that self esteem is a very important thing, his reply wat that he doesn't take that into account. I don't know of any scientific studies but love is far better than counting pennies.
