A lot of you may know us already: we're the family with the little girl named Sophie. Sophie was born with a extremely rare disorder called hereditary motor sensory neuropathy type 2. Her disorder displays fine and gross motor delays and she is unable to feel peripheral pain. In 1998 she was also diagnosed with pseudo-bowel obstruction. She is now 5 1/2 and we started her program with an intensive training when she was 2. Though her progress has been slow, we are with out a doubt indepted to the Option Institute and their amazing teachers: no one believed that this little girl would come as far as she has. We and the Son-Rise staff took the attitude that she is an open book and has no prognosis: anything can happen.

One of the truly amazing things you learn from the option process that we were not able to discover from other programs was that it can be applied to any child and that the whole family benefits. This program is not for everyone, but if you are willing to work and live it, and it feels right to you, you are probably in the right place.

We have come away from Maximum Impact weeks with information that can carry over to our child's own uniqueness from the wealth of information and support of these very brave families with children with autism.

To those of you considering the Son-Rise program for your non-autistic special child, we say "go for it!" You have everything to gain.

By the way all, Sophie's website should be up and running just after Labor Day. Look for it under:

Take care, Jody, Rick and Sophie
