: :Families in Britain are now getting funding from their local authorities to run SonRise programs, some are receiving in excess of $20 000 per annum. Why are local authorities prepared to invest so much? The answer is that they see it as an effective treatment and also cheaper than their own programs. Its actually probably just the latter! but whatever, they stump up the cash!

: In the one case I know of where a local authority in the UK is paying for a Son-Rise program (and paying considerably more than it costs to fund a place at the excellent school for autistic spectrum kids in the same area), it's because the family sued them and the local authority finally gave in rather than fight this extremely wealthy family (who could perfectly well have afforded to pay for it themselves). Even so, the local authority are only funding it for one year (and will extend it after that only if the dramatic results that the parents are predicting do in fact happen - they haven't so far even though this child has been in a Son-Rise program out of school hours for two years already), so they are waiting to see, rather than convinced of its effectiveness. A lot of people are angry about it because special education is underfunded enough anyway - this money is being taken away from that available to educate and support many other autistic kids.

you're right...i think it's senseless to fight the schools/authority to fund the program if they already have money. they should put their time and energy into the program and their child!! especially that they are wealthy and maybe another child could've benifited with that money in the school system.
