Am I the only one in the world who is hesitant to stick an untested chemical into my child? Thalidomide was a miracle at the time of it's release, and look at the damage it did...Secretin has not been tested in all clinical settings, and furthermore, synthetic secretin has not shown a fraction of the improvements it's predecessor has. I want my son back. There's not anything I wouldn't do for him. There's not too much I will do TO him. Have you ever seen "Awakenings" (I think that’s the name of the movie) with Robin Williams and the patients being treated with levadopa? This movie is based on a true story where the patients, catatonic, are treated with levadopa, and have an amazing restorative phase. 100% recovery. Then the body adjusts to the dosage, and the patients revert back to their previous state. Now, I'm sure that someone out there might just say "So what if my child regresses to his/her former condition, at least I had him for a little while." True, but at what cost? Did you alter an outcome that may have been more permanent? These are babies. Even at age 14 they are still babies. If secretin is proven absolutely safe, and is proven to improve the general functioning of my son, I will be breaking the glass on the doors to get him to it, but otherwise, it is terrifying to me to contemplate the damage I might do to him, or his children, by allowing this chemical to be put into his system. While I am on my soapbox, I want to know why we are so quick to vaccinate our children in the first place? Scientific studies have shown with alarming progression, that viruses and bacteria that cause childhood illnesses have a propensity to mutate, and become resistant to antibiotics. Is it a factor in lowering our child’s immune system that we continue to give vaccines, and antibiotics, instead of letting the chickenpox, or cold run it’s course? I am not advocating measles, or even mumps. I even sneak motrin into my child’s liquids when his temperature breeches 101 degrees, but at what point are we being a hindrance instead of a help?
