hi Chris:

in my son, john's son-rise program, we record data, one section addresses the "button search". we feel the most important idea is to remain comfortable and loving, while showing no reaction. when this happens, the button searching becomes a non-issue, and we are off to the next activity.

when people view the "behavior" as "bad" or "inappropriate", sometimes their reactions tend to be bigger and more exciting, maybe also, their faces are more animated. this can really be great and fun for a child, and they will want to see it again. also, if there is discomfort, i believe it can easily be picked up by the child, and also very interesting.

samarhia kaufman speaks of this in the first tape of special children/special solutions. it's great listening if you are interested.

best of luck
