Ola, We have a lovely playroom and one volunteer besides me. I do a scaled down version of son rise because I am a single parent. Me Too, I think if PECS is working and your child us happy and likes it that is wonderful. I was afraid that if Josh found it hard to speak, and I gave him another way to communicate he might stop trying to talk. I have been told by people that work with PECS that it promotes language, so I may be wrong. I did work with picture cards that I labled for my son and that expanded his vocabulary quickly after auditory training. I think pairing the written word with the picture helped him understand better. Kind of like when I took French in college. I couldn't make anything out when the instructor spoke in French. I couldn't even hear the breaks imbetween words, but if I was following along in the text, I could hear it and make sense of it. I think it is a judgement call on the part of the parent. If you see the lights comming on for your child, it is helping. Love, Jen is
