Our Emilie is 13 years old and is in an inclusion program in a middle school in New York City. She is in a regular 8th grade class with a modified curriculum. We advocated hard for the inclusion services because we thought she needed role models and to have a chance to be in a social situation. Although social interactions do not come naturally or easily for her, she is VERY motivated to fit in and participate. She learns these skills somewhat by rote, but it does start to come more naturally after awhile. She is actually a refreshingly nice teenager, and is actually popular in school. the other kids are really fantastic with her, and it kind of renews ones faith in people. Anyway, we try to take things as they come and be our own best experts. I hope other parents of teens will chime in.
: First of all my thanks to Clare for helping me understand Autism from your side of the world. It has helped to
: talk to Adam about it.
: Secondly, aren't there any parents with teens that have high functioning Autism or PDD (NOS)? Or am I
: the only one alone out here?
