Hi Betsy, so great to hear from you!! Toby is still wet at nights to - soaked diaper every morning - except he has no problem with wearing it! I guess you could try lifting him at night onto the potty beside his bed - if he doesn't mind this of course! Toby sleeps so heavily at night i can't imagine him ever holding on! But i guess he will eventually. Also cutting down on drinks as bedtime approaches will help coz then he won't have such a full bladder. It might be fun, and a way of getting a message through to Mitch if you had him help you take the wet bedcloths to the washing machine each morning. This depends on how connected he is with you i guess - something i'm not sure of - but if he were able to take it on board it could involve him having to wait for breakfast while you put the sheets onto wash etc. This will only work if it's done with lots of fun and love and of course, if he is able to understand! Finally he is only 4 still. i know of 5 year olds who still wet at night coz they sleep so deeply. If he finds it hard to get dry then you could maybe try introducing a 'new' big boys diaper. I recently switched from disposables to those eco nappies [for enviromental reasons - did you know it takes between 200 to 500 years for a disposable to decompose!]and they look and feel real different to disposables. I told Toby that they were big boy nappies and he seemed quite chuffed with that! Let me know how it goes. love to you all, Shara. P.S. If anyone is interested in finding out more about these eco-nappies here's a site: www.realnappy.com
: Hi! My first message to you all! Mitch is almost 4 and we are on our second attempt at potty-training. Question: Mitch has decided he no longer wants to wear pampers (diapers) --- YES!!!! That's the good news. It gets complicated at bed-time, however. Tonight he refused to wear a diaper to bed. He is having some success with peeing in the potty, with our gentle guidance and lots of cheering him on. He still does not wake up dry in the mornings. In fact, he's soaked. I didn't force the issue tonight, but did try to explain to him that even big boys wear diapers at night until they can go potty by themselves at night. I put the potty in his room just in case he decides to show me just how big a boy he is!! Nothing would surprise me. Before going to bed, while we were tackling the diaper issue, he cried desperately and finally stood up and peed all over his bed (luckily I saw it coming and had the potty in front of him -- sometimes mind-reading comes in handy!) After changing the sheets, I tried offering the diaper again and he vehemently refused, so I put training underwear on him and he quickly lay down and promptly went to sleep. So, what's the question? After Mitch was sound asleep I went back in and put a diaper on him. I know it's a control thing for him, but the reality of it all is that he isn't dry in the mornings and I'm not into changing sheets all night long. He's a great sleeper and I'd like to keep it that way!! Any advice??? Thanks!!! I love reading all your posts.
