Potty question

Hi! My first message to you all! Mitch is almost 4 and we are on our second attempt at potty-training. Question: Mitch has decided he no longer wants to wear pampers (diapers) --- YES!!!! That's the good news. It gets complicated at bed-time, however. Tonight he refused to wear a diaper to bed. He is having some success with peeing in the potty, with our gentle guidance and lots of cheering him on. He still does not wake up dry in the mornings. In fact, he's soaked. I didn't force the issue tonight, but did try to explain to him that even big boys wear diapers at night until they can go potty by themselves at night. I put the potty in his room just in case he decides to show me just how big a boy he is!! Nothing would surprise me. Before going to bed, while we were tackling the diaper issue, he cried desperately and finally stood up and peed all over his bed (luckily I saw it coming and had the potty in front of him -- sometimes mind-reading comes in handy!) After changing the sheets, I tried offering the diaper again and he vehemently refused, so I put training underwear on him and he quickly lay down and promptly went to sleep. So, what's the question? After Mitch was sound asleep I went back in and put a diaper on him. I know it's a control thing for him, but the reality of it all is that he isn't dry in the mornings and I'm not into changing sheets all night long. He's a great sleeper and I'd like to keep it that way!! Any advice??? Thanks!!! I love reading all your posts.
