: As others have stated, start out very slow. When we started with 1/4 teaspoon, my son would not take it. We have had good results with the liquid. Now both my son and daughter ask for it by name. We don't give them juice due to the high sugar content. Purified water is the only drink they get. Start with 1/16 of a teaspoon in water and add either 1/4 teaspoon of lemon juice or 1/4 teaspoon of vitamin c (get the NON buffered ascorbic acid). OJ used to be their favorite, so the nice thing about the vit c is that when added to the B6, it almost looks like OJ as well as has a slight OJ taste. It is not too bad. My two year old pouts if she doesn't get "vitamins". Slowly work up to the recommended dose. EACH CHILD IS DIFFERENT! The dose for one does not mean the same dose is good for all. If you see regressions go back to the lower dose. We "played" with the doses and also had a negative reaction when going too high. Clearly B6 has had a huge impact on both of my kids. Staring/zoning out episodes vitually disappeared within a week on the B6. My two year old began talking like crazy within that same time period. I highly recommend trying it. It is clearly a much safer route to try then medication. I would not use any other brand other than Kirkman as their product is designed specifically for autistic people. The new powder form has P5P in it which is "broken down" B6. Some believe that since our children have a hard time with digestion, breaking down the B6 could be one reason the treatment helps about 40-50% who try it. This P5P may help someone that did well on the B6 at first, then saw no changes. It only comes in powder form. We have not tried it as the liquid continues to be just fine for us. I have heard that the taste is better than the original powder. In any case, Kirkman will be happy to send you a sample of each for free.
For further information on other treatments, please feel free to E-mail me at would be happy to send you all that I have learned in the year and 1/2 since learning about autism. It is a nine page packet. Bram Hornstein
