I know of parents of a child who live in Havertown, PA that actually got the school to pay for a 40-hour-per-week Son-Rise program. Apparently they got to choose the teachers (between 3 people) and they do this in their Option playroom. I have a copy of his IEP and if you wanted, I could ask him if he minded us sharing. But I won't do it unless it is okay with him. I can ask.

Our school district I am educating. They are trying to do what they can with the attitudes and philosophies and Patrick seems to be doing well as far as skills (like drinking from a cup, etc.) from their methods with Son-Rise attitudes. I like that the people directly involved with Patrick are willing to learn this. He, however, has only said one word at school, an extended version of what he already was saying at home, but no new words. All his new words come from home in and out of his playroom. This is in the Conroe Independent School District. However, I just went to a meeting this past weekend with other parents about IEP meetings, etc., and the school district in general with special education and it sounds like other parents have nightmares. Our son is in a very special program they have called ISPEAC and there is three little boys in the class with one teacher and one aide so the ratio is nice and he gets about 1-2 hours of one-on-one time with his teacher, and then he gets 3 30-minute sessions of speech therapy, 1 30-minute session of OT, and 1 15-minute of PT (like why bother, but we are going in to request additional services). So he is getting a lot of one-on-one. I am sorry -- Conroe Independent School District is in a suburb that includes The Woodlands/Conroe, Texas. It is 30 miles north of downtown Houston.
