Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all your helpful replies. I haven't come back earlier because Billy became more and more challenging but in a totally different way to before. He is verbal but his vocabulary is currently just single words to get what he wants. After I posted my last message he started to ism much more and become much more insular most of the time, at other times he became much more verbal, trying so hard to tell us something. Finally we understood - we're slow if happy detectives, and with the help of our family doctor we discovered he had an ear infection, it was as if biting his fingers was a means of coping with the pain. Billy has had hardly a days illness, next time we'll be ready for the signs. Anyway thanks for all your suggestions it's fantastic to know there's so much help and care out there.
Billy is now back on form and in the last couple of days has actually answered a question. On asking 'Are you happy?', we get a fantastic smile and a very assertive 'Yes.
Once again many thanks
Angela
