Gaylen had some great advice. When Brenen is in a, what I call "tired" phase, we try to follow a lot and accept it, knowing he needs to recharge. We use this chance to rub his feet a lot as well as other physical stimulation. We squeeze him in between two bean bags (which he loves) and usually after that he is more alert. Also, I now feel after doing the program for almost a year now, it is ok not to spend every second in the play room. I used to be very rigid about this. "Brenen needs to get his eight hours today." Once in a while, we play in the back yard or go to the park and swing a lot. When we go back into the playroom we both have more energy and I or a volunteer can get more out of him at that point. It is better to have 1 quality hour than 8 poor hours. Brenen usually does get his eight hours per day. However, now if I feel he needs a breather from the room, I give it to him. As a matter of fact, yesturday a volunteer called in sick and my wife and I felt we both needed a break. Instead of doing four hours between us before our next volunteer came, we went to an amusement park. What a great idea. (It was my wife) We all had fun and again, I think the spinning rides, the rollercoaster and just doing something outside really helped him. Wow was he motivated to talk more. On one ride after getting off he said "That." "What about that Brenen?" I said. "I want to go on." The whole time we were able to get a lot out of him. When we got home our next volunteer was also able to get a lot of interaction as well. I'm glad I changed being so rigid about quantity of hours.
Lastly, Gaylen mentioned the DAN booklet. It is a great resourse. If you want our (The foundation my wife and I started) "informational pamphlet" on treatments I would be happy to E-mail it to you. It is an easy read and may be a good place to start. E-mail me at Gaylen, perhaps you may want one as well. You seem very knowledgeable and could possibly give me some suggestions. It is free, just send me a note.
