I was actually laughing reading your post. I deal with one person who is part of Patrick's school for ARDs and was the person in charge of the EYS program and is supposed to be the person to call for our inhome trainer (actually our inhome trainer winds up teaching the school -- hee, hee, not the other way around). Every time I mention "Son-Rise" to her, she rolls her eyes at me, tells me that "everyone" at the school and in the district "knows" the Son-Rise program, which if you consider what happened in his EYS (extended year services -- the summer program) program, there is no way and I bluntly told the director in a letter I was really tired of being told that "everyone" knows Son-Rise because it is blatantly obvious that no one does and that I wish he would consider it in a fashion that could be employed in the classroom as a viable treatment alternative to what they have available. I shared with him how another Son-Rise family won over their school district in Pennsylvania. Anyway, she gets this really hostile affect with me and T. Willhite all the time whenever we share the success we've had. I've decided that I'm not going to try to win her over -- she's not worth it and doesn't carry that much weight in my ARDs.
Have you thought about advertising in the college paper? That department head would have no say in what was put in there and you might reach some of these students that way. Our local library has two little conference rooms that you can reserve for free; as long as the public can attend and you don't charge admission. We are thinking about doing this in our local paper to recruit some more volunteers. Whoever might show up shows up, but I thought I'd bring one of our volunteers for her to share what's it meant for her to be with Patrick. You saw the progress Patrick has made since his intensive. People cannot deny the power of this program.
Good luck! Much love, Hilda
