The two local high schools we approached both have community service clubs. They are not required to do any particular amount of community service. We asked to go speak to the clubs, and my wife has gone. It really helps to speak to the clubs. We actually had five high school kids come to our house after her first speech. I remember one of the students commenting how all they were normally asked to do was to serve cookies at blood banks, and how exciting the Son Rise Program was. I would suggest calling the guidance counseler at your local high school and ask if there is such a club or community involvement at the school.
A Son Rise family in our county made a tremendous connection with the local community college before we started our program. The psychology department there has field work classes. The professors enjoy our Son Rise poragrams so much that they usually give us an early opportunity to come in and speak to their students, who can choose from many different possibilities. The professors have all come to our house during outreaches to observe how their students are doing. They even show the video, I want my boy back, in their classes. I love talking to these classes.
