After a few days away from my computer, I was amazed to see the response your question about locks had sitrred up amongst Son Rise parents -Wow!!! I was smiling to myself, reading all the positive things the parents had said, how it's a great way of re-asking yourself why we do what we do & celebrating our journey's together. I too think it's fantastic as a teacher, that you've done so much reading. Your quote about Raun being let out of his playroom led me straight to my own copy to re-read the text! The conclusion I've come to is this. Bears & Samahria were the first S-R parents. They developed this programme specifically for Raun, & basically made it up as they went along. I'm sure there are many different things they tried along the way, but didn't continue with. If you are able to take up any of the wonderful offers from S-R parents to view a programme, I'm sure you'll see that each one is different. You see, as parents, (hope everyone doesn't mind me including you all) that is what we love about the S-R programme sooooooo much. We can decided what we want to do, how often we play, how many hours in a day, what to stretch for next, and yes, if we lock the door or not. By locking our playroom door, I'm showing Charlotte in the most loving & giving way I can, that I know this is a great place for her to be. No should's, or must's, but in a single room, the ability to experience whatever SHE chooses. To talk, to interact or to ism. The programme that parents sign up for at the Institute is called an 'Intensive' - there is a reason for that. What we do with our kids is an exaggeration of 1:1 - you can work with a child following them all around the house if you wish,- but it wouldn't be as intensive, as if you were in a playroom. I thank you for your gift of a question - it has been a wonderful opportinity to share my ideas with you. If you still have further questions- great. But don't beat yourself up with worry because you don't get what we do- open yourself up to other possibilites, search further or just accept it. We love what we do as does Charlotte & I know it works. Kim x
