Hi Julie - Another CA Son-Rise family YEAH! I live in Petaluma north of San Francisco. To date I've been able to get our Regional Center to fund additional respite hours but not directly linked to my daughter's Son-Rise Program. I requested the additional time based on the fact Julianna is 5.5 years old, not potty trained as of yet, has little appreciation of danger, wasn't sleeping through the night, essentially requiring constant supervision. etc. My respite hours were increased to 30 hours a month vs. 42 a quarter. I do use the hours however for people who work in Julianna's program. My daugher turns six in August so I plan to continue her Son-Rise Program as a form of home schooling. I'm just starting the process of trying to figure out how to get the school district help defray the cost of her program. I currently am paying people $10-15 an hour and she's in the playroom M-F all day. Fortunately I am blessed with the resources to pull this off however I do feel there is an obligation on the school district's part to help with the cost. I'm going to meet with the school superintendent in the next couple of weeks to understand how the school is funded for special needs children and how I might be able to tap into the resources. If you would like to continue this quest offline my e-mail address is victoria.perrault@afc.com.
