We got some assistance from our state In-Home & Family Support program and from the MHMR essential services division. In Texas, kids with PDD/Autism or mental retardation can qualify for up to $3600 a year for items or services that allow them to remain in the community and make progress. Then, in some counties, the essential services division pays for even more. Unfortunately, each county handles it a bit differently so some counties have long waiting lists. We're about to move out of the best county for funding and into one that has a three year waiting list.
You have to word the request with details on how the therapy will help. If you list it as an "intensive one-on-one program" and focus on the program's use in building communication, focus, visual and auditory competence and motor skills, they'll be more likely to pay. We're in the process of moving right now so I can't put my fingers on it right away, but if someone wants a copy of what we sent in to request the funding, I can send it to you later. Just e-mail me privately with your snail mail address. Gaylen
