I read with pleasure your sweet note. It is so obvious how much you love your daughter and want to help her, and refreshing not to hear only about "her problems" and your dilemma of how to "fix her". You're going to be a very powerful Force of Nature, I can just tell!! And I celebrate that every chance I get!
The only times I've seen a definite diagnosis come in handy are in schooling and government help. Here in AZ, you do not qualify for state aid for therapists and respite care if you have a PDD diagnosis vs. an Autism diagnosis. Having the autism diagnosis opened up different possibilities at school as well, not that they were any better or worse than the other programs. I think that you already know that a home Son-Rise program beats anything the state or the schools have to offer hands down.
We are in the process of applying for Ben to go to a private school that caters to learning disabled and dyslexic children. There are children at that school who have PDD and Aspergers, but none with Autism. My doctor is willing to change Ben's diagnosis to PDD if that's what's needed to get him into this school. We never have used state services, so this is not a problem for us.
Seeing that your daughter is so young, I would do a home program and delay the diagnosis until you have a better idea what you want for her from the government or the schools.
Happy Joining!!!
Love from Kelly.
