Sorry for the typo - meant to say he looked Trisha in the EYE... another thing that wasn't happening pre-Son-Rise!!
I rushed that last paragraph, as I needed to relieve another of my wonderful volunteers in the room, who joined our program in its second month of operation (Feb '98).
But I wanted to convey that we have never really FORCED Ben to go into the room, although you could say we've bribed him in there and maybe tricked him in there a few times. And there have been times like today when we've allowed him to explore other options. But we always end up back in the room. That's where the most important work with him is done.
Like I said, the room is wonderful, and the lock is necessary. Son-Rise programs are run with a loving and accepting attitude that is SO far removed from the idea of "abusive". If you can get to visit someone's program, you will hopefully see what I mean.
There is a set of audio tapes called "Special Children, Special Solutions" in which Samarhia answers several commonly asked questions about the Son-Rise program, including this one about the room. It can be ordered off the Option web pages.
