Like the others said, each child is an individual which responds differently to different treatments. Though some may try to sell or offer treatments/approaches that "work for autistic kids," usually taking what applies in your situation and blending the best approach/treatments for your child will give him/her the best chance at reaching full potential. The challenge in this is trusting your ability to weed through what's available and pick the best for your child. The excitement in it is that there are so many different options for help.
What I've learned through the years is to fully investigate treatment options, then go with my gut on what I think will help, trying not to be swayed by the latest fad treatments. It's also important to try one new thing at a time rather than a bunch at once since if there is improvement or difficulty, it will be easier to know what caused it.
If you haven't already been directed to the Autism Research Institute www.autism.com/ari, they are a great organization for learning about research and treatment options. They have a DAN! report that fully explains medical testing and treatments for things that can improve symptoms. While they are sometimes a bit biased and can go off on fad treatments sometimes, they do offer good information. Gaylen
