Dear Penny.

Welcome to a different journey than Maybe you expected. It is within your ability for this to be OK for you levely son, yourself and your family. It seemed to me at the outset that it was as though all my friends children had been set off on gentle ambles along easy paths but someone had just plunked my little fellow down at the foot of some vast mountain rangr and left us there just telling us to set off and climb. So initially many tears and much exhaustion but as we found out where we were we read books [throwing away those we found unhelpful or outdated ] , we talked to others also out here climbing, reached for and professional advice we thought might be helpful and decided who seemed useful companions on our Journey.

We have found Son-Rise Start Up courses very helpful. We have found the books 'sonrise the miracle continues' the video 'I want my little boy back' and the audiotapes'special children special solutions' of particular help'[from the option institute]. I read a very good book by Tony Attwood [I forget the title but I think it was just 'Aspergers syndrome' ] very helpful. There is an excellent book published by JKP called 'A positive approach to Autism' by Stella Waterhouse which I found summarised simply and well the vast array of different theories and approaches to Autistic spectrum disorders including interesting research on possible biochemical and dietary issues... I found it was helpful as a way of considering briefly which approaches we wished to look into further and which not to wasteour limited time on.

Good Luck.

Our son is lovely and amongst the chaos and challenges there is much joy and Laughter in our House. It lies within your ability to find the way foreward on your Journey. At least you know where you are now so you can get your bearings talk to other'climbers' gather your guidebooks and equipment and move forewards more easily.

Much Love from England. Jeanie
