Debbie,
I think the Son Rise program teaches a couple of things that the others don't. First, it teaches you about autism so thoroughly, that you finally understand it really well. The behaviors don't seem so scary...the solutions so hard to figure. It all makes a lot more sense. Second, it teaches about attitude. I have such a much more positive attitude, and leave the future so wide open that I have no idea what will be in store, but I know in my heart it'll be ok. I didn't feel that way before going through the Son Rise program. I was a nervous wreck about the future, so this was invaluable to me. And finally, I feel sure that if I followed the program EXACTLY as it is taught, then my daugher would either be cured or close to it. But I've also learned that I can't do that...try as I might, I can't duplicate the program like the Kaufmanns did it! I wish I could but I can't. I do my best, and it's a really good job! BUT, I do it the way I need to do it, and it fits our family, and our lives, and our daughter perfectly! She's doing beautifully, and we have a lot to be happy about. But cure her? I don't think in those terms...Make a huge difference in her life? Absolutely! I work hard to get her to a point that we can all live happily with, that's my goal. We're very, very close too! I hope this is helpful. It's hard to describe, but I tried to put the feelings into words. Remember, never put limits on yourself or your child...that's the key!
