It is an intensive, 1:1, highly-structured program where tasks are broken down into minute steps and taught through "drills" or repetitive practice sessions. Catherine Maurice has two books that explain it fairly well "Behavioral Intervention for Children with Autism and PDD" (or something like that) and "Let Me Hear Your Voice."
