Thanks to those who have written back. I feel I should explain the clinging a little more clearly. When our son clings, he does it almost as though he is scared to have to other person move away or lose contact with him.
Along with trying to physically hold you back from moving, he will also grab onto your shirt or hair to keep you where he wants you. Our son loves to jump around and is very physical so I don't think it's the fear of movement
in general, just fear of letting us go. I think! I would love to know if anyone else has had experiences like this and what their thoughts were on the origin of the fear and
clinging. We've been encouraging him to simply hold our hands instead of grabbing at us and that seems to help sometimes. If there are any other ideas, please write me back.
