Our 4 year old Keenan really likes blankets and pillows. We pull him around on a blanket or sheet for a choochoo ride, go underneath it like a tent or pretend to go to sleep and snore loudly. We can ask for language at any point when he wants the action to change or continue. We have had great fun with large cardboard boxes, pretending the box is a house, knocking on the door and having various characters (stuffed animals, dolls, etc) answer the door with funny voices, tickling or whatever delights Keenan. Keenan loves music. Sometimes we play a game where I'll sing a song he really likes and sing it loud as long as he is making good eye contact with me and very quiet when he looks away. Sometimes I become a radio and he has to make the music turn on by pushing my nose and turn it off by pulling my ear! Keenan loves books and we do a lot of reenactment of the story with various props. In the beginning I did a lot more joining and following. In one of my first sessions I examined a playdo lid for 20 minutes! Hope this helps! Lynn : Hi! I recently attended the start-up in september and when I came home I was feeling great! I still feel great but, now that the playroom is finished and I am in the room with Michael I don't know how to introduce things to him. I join him and I let him be in control but he always wants to leave the room after 1/2 hour. How do I get him to stay? We have a trampoline he likes to jump on and a great big ball and lots of wood puzzles and blocks and hats. I get his attention first when I blow bubbles and use my 3 E's but then he gets bored and looks away as if he is saying"ok now what?" then goes to the trampoline or ball no matter how much I use my 3E's he walks away. He makes wonderful eye-contact and likes to sing songs(me sing,he does habd movements to the song) Really that is the only time he is interested! My husband and I are setting up an intership with a local college next week we are giving a presentation in our home for would-be volunteers and I don't know how to explain or train these volunteers if I don't know how to begin. Any ideas please HELP!! : Michael's Mom
