At my start up course 1 year ago we were asked to list 3 targets we wished to aim for.One of mine was for our little fellow [then aged 6] to grow closer to his little sister[then 1 and a half].At that point he was very wary of her...moving away if she came to sit near him....not wanting her in the room with him much and very reluctant to play with her or touch her.We have been persevering with them trying to encorage all sorts of interactions. He plays better and better with his brother 2 years younger.Last week he was poorly and off school...Although he was much better friday we kept him off one last day to be protective.I took him and his sister to our supermarket to getsome canisters and a little jacket for her.I needed to carry the old canisters in for exchange and asked him to hold her hand...and our Jo held her hand all through the car park to the shop...then brought lots of clothes to her in the trolley looking in her eyes and asking if she liked them until we found the little jacket she needed and wanted[just like her big brothers blue one].I was thrilled to bits.Later on the way back from picking our middle one up from school she ran on ahead and with no prompting Jo chased her.. and held her hand all the way home...and she knew this was special and my wriggly two and a half year old who is too independent to hold anyones hand all the way home just trotted along beside him letting her big brother keep her safe.Sometimes as you move foreward inch by inch you suddenly look back and realise what a long way you have travelled. So we add this to our store of glowing embers we keep in our hearts to warm ourselves on on the harder days ...and we are gathering more and more embers.Love Jeanie.
