I have one more thought. You might want to try going in the room with John and not challenging him...just really strongly join him. I had forgotten about this, but we did it with Paul and it was amazing how instantly he was with us. It was like he was isming to keep us at bay so we wouldn't request. Let me know what happens. Love, L
: We had the same experience with Paul. When we asked about it at our Intensive, the Son-Rise staff said that it was very common. I think being in the room one on one is considerably more intimate. Think about situations that we get in as adults where, say you are visiting with a group of people and suddenly everyone leaves the room but you and one other person...it suddenly feels different. It's this kind of contact that is most challenging for autisitic kids, so it makes sense. Love, Lisa
: : : hi
: : would be interested in thoughts here. i am noticing more and more, a clear-cut difference here. john is VERY much more exclusive in the playroom versus outside. in fact, we can be playing, john is very present, move to the playroom, and he becomes exclusive. or, we are in the playroom, in exclusive mode, move outside of the room, bingo, present. it's funny lately, we have had examples of people coming over to play, john saying "hey, so and so, let's go play," jams down to the room, immediately exclusive.
: : so, what's up with all your children? my thoughts run to 1. this child really knows how to take care of himself. 2. something in the room is setting him off, (my husband would go down in the summer and instantly go into an allergic attack, but we thoroughly cleaned the carpets, and that mellowed out) 3. I JUST DON'T KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
: : other than this interesting stuff, john has moved a million miles this year. i am counting the loops on conversations, he is asking wonderful, and thougtful questions, his imagination is off the charts, AND he just lost his first tooth, with two others just about hanging. not bad as we round off three years of son-rise. what an adventure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
