Kirk,

We have Patrick on Super-Nu Thera's liquid formulation. I can't really say that it made a dramatic difference in his life (i.e., some kids would start talking after being given this), but it certainly doesn't hurt. We mix it in his oatmeal in the morning, although they recommend you divide the doses. He doesn't seem to want it in any other source, including his rice milk. A note of caution, though. Patrick actually had a reaction to the Super Nu Thera power formulation AND the DMG that Kirkman Sales sells. I called the Autism Research Institute and Dr. Rimland thought that maybe Patrick was having a reaction to one of the fillers, and with a little investigation, we discovered both formulations used a rice bran filler. Although Patrick could tolerate rice milk, rice bran gave him horrible gas and he would scream at night, waking him up from sleep. So we switched to the liquid formulation and he was fine. Per Dr. Rimland's recommendation, we found a pure form of DMG and we tried this for awhile. Patrick had no noticeable improvement. However, some people have seen great progress in their children.

The biochemical make-up of these kids is SOOOO unique and so individual it is hard to find the right thing. Patrick's two classmates use individual formulation approaches. One child, the one doing a Son-Rise program like us, has been given secretin and they did the leaky gut body flush out, toxic metals. It is a doctor up in Dallas, Texas (a DAN protocol doctor). I know another child who benefitted greatly from the secretin/body clean-out approach who is going into puberty. I know some who tried secretin without a body clean-out and it helped their stools, but there was no other noticeable change. Repligen, the drug company who manufacturing secretin now (they have the patent), is going to begin clinical trials for the FDA. We have gone to their web site and signed up for it. The program cost this other family I spoke of well over $8000 for treatment, and that is not something we can afford, so we will wait until some clinical trials pop up. There is another child in Patrick's class who takes a totally individualized vitamin approach that takes into consideration his unique biochemical makeup. This formula was developed after much testing. I could ask her what tests she had done and what they discovered and how they made the vitamin formulation, if you would like? I am sure he probably had hair analysis, toxic chemical analysis, heavy metals, etc.

I guess there are no easy answers. They (Kirkman) will send you a free sample formulation. We did that after his reaction to the rice bran -- we called them and let them know, and they offerred to send us a trial amount of the liquid to see how Patrick reacted to it. If you wanted to try the liquid form, I'd be happy to mail you some to try so it wouldn't cost you anything, and I would give you the dosage for all the different weights. Just e-mail me.
