: Bram,

: You are so awesome to take the time with such a thourough response. We have limited all the sugars in Paul's diet. His typical day of food is: breakfast-6 egg whites (or more) and a sweet potatoe (every other day) or homemade brown rice pancakes (alternated with the sweet potatoe. Lunch-2 veal chops and green beans. Dinner-fish and salad. He snacks on nuts, carrots and peas. I'm cutting back on the carrots and peas. I don't give him any fruit, white potatoes, or g/f breads. He can take a pill any size, so he doesn't get any sugar from vitamins. He's been on the diet this strict since last April. We give him super nu thera, vitamin C, and probiotics. So, I think he has an especially resistant case. He's feeling better now, but I feel I have to give him antifungals, homeopathic or otherwise. Any other thoughts? Thanks, Lisa

Lisa,
Looks like you have it down pretty good. I guess I would still try a few different ideas here. While I love fish, it can still be harmful if you give too much. Unfortuntately our oceans and lakes have mercury that is dumped in from industries and that mercury is of course absorbed by the fish, and in turn, us. We used to give Brenen tuna and salmon twice a week each. That may have been a poor choice. Now we have swithced to usually once each or no tuna for the week since the tuna is usually considered more likely to have mercury. We replaced that with baked organic turkey or pinto beans. We put the beans in a food processor and mix in some garlic and lemon juice. He loves it.
You may want to look at the sugar content in sweet potatoes and try red potatoes instead. I'm not sure there is a lot, but that would be my guess.

Have you done an allergy test? Since his diet does not contain a lot of different foods it might be wise to 1, make sure he is not allergic to what you are feeding him and 2, see if you can add a few more foods for him to eat. Ideally a four day rotaion diet is recommended. Meaning you only eat a single type of food once every four days. Hard to do, but not impossible. We are pretty close to that diet. Some foods he gets every three days.

Lastly, I would again try the other supplaments I mention before like MTC, Cranberry Juice extract, and Colostrum. Kirkman seems to have come out with a new probiotic that may be worth trying as well. It is a good idea to rotate them on occasion. While we have had success with Lactobacillus GG, I think I am going to try this new one as well.

Good luck,
Bram

: : : Paul continues to become resistant to any antifungals we use. He recently had an amazing 10 weeks, yeast free on garlic, but now has the yeast again. We are trying Yeast Fighters, a mix of different antifungals, and Caprylic acid. Once we get it back under control, does anyone have any advice on how to rotate the antifungals...daily, weekly? Also, how many different ones would you use in the rotation? Our homeopath is very flip about the whole things, so I'm not getting much help there. Thanks, Lisa

: : Hi Lisa,
: : Its been a while since I wrote on this board, but I think you have been at it a while with your yeast "battle". We may have discussed this prior, but for the sake of others I will give you my suggestions again (or my mind is too cluttered and I have not talked to you about this before!). Anyway, the key in my opinion is not the "anti" yeast drugs and I'm not sure if that is what you are reffering to. All you will do with drugs is make these "bugs" stronger. You will most likely never get rid of all the yeast in your son's gut so the goal should be balance. Our children have an immune system that is not working as effectively as it could be. If we give drugs to battle the yeast for them instead of repairing the immune function then our children will need to remain on the drugs indefinately.
: : Therefore, the key is to help their own bodies function more effectively first.
: : My suggestion for getting the yeast to "normal" numbers are as follows:
: : Diet-Remove ALL sugar sources!!! Yeast love sugar and will reproduce. I really believe this is the single most important external change that you can do. My son improved more from this than anything else. That means NO juice, Rice/Soy milks. Just reverse osmosis or filtered water. The only fruit to give is berries and limit then to every other day. Rotate as well (one day rasberries, next time blueberries, ect.) Eat a balanced GFCF (Gluten Free Casein Free) diet. I do not beleive you need to be "high" protein, but would keep it balanced. Lots of vegatables, again limit the ones high in sugar like carrots. Broccoli, green beans, cucumbers should all be ok with most kids. Feed them organic if possible. A typical day for Brenen is bean pasta with olive oil and garlic sauce for breakfast, rasberries for a mid morning snack, baked lemon chicken with broccoli and a potato for lunch, hummus for an afternoon snack, and buckwheat with squash for dinner. Yes, I know not all kids will start out eating like this, but neither did mine!! You just have to make it a priority and you can do it. Your child will adapt and it does not hurt to eat these foods in front of your child so they know you like it too! We do a four day rotation diet. Not perfect, but works fairly well.
: : Other items that helped us include a fair amount of garlic (or you can get liquid garlic to add to a drink), MCT oil, Cranberry Juice extract, Lactobacillus GG (good bacteria), Colustrum, and DMG and/or TMG. I hope that was it. Oops, almost forgot a big one- Vitamin C. We give 2000 mg per day for a 36 lb, child. Sounds like a lot, but we can see a big change if we go lower. Also we give a multivitamin. We used to give Super Nu Thera (and I think it is great, but we now have a specially made individuallized dose of vitamins that we give. In all honesty I don't see much difference, but I like the higher zinc levels the indivdual one gives. Ok, so if you are new at this where does one find all these items? Check out my web page bhare.org for Co. names and phone numbers. We did try IVIG as well, but that was after his yeast levels were down. We did that in hopes of reducing his MBPA (mylin basic protein antibodies).
: : One other important thing to consider is mercury detox. Actually, this is something that I beleive should be done very early. Most of our kids have toxic levels of mercury in their bodies and I think that that may actually be the cause of autism in many of our children. Mercury is known to disrupt digestive function, cause neuroligical problems and lastly cause IMMUNE SYSTEM disfunction. So if we get this poison out of our kids early then perhaps their systems can repair themselves. I think they can. If you want more info on removing metals see my web page. This is a relatively "new" treatment for autism and one that I think you will soon see very common. We plan to start this with our son in about a week.
: : So I hope you can see that "fixing" the whole body is what I recommend. Also, once your numbers go down, don't be quick to bring back the "sugar" foods. Slowly phase out the natural anti fungals over months. Then slowly bring back some foods.

: : Lastly, and most importantly make "friends" with the yeast. Don't battle it, but thank it for helping you learn so much about your child as well as your self. Love and accept it as part of your child. Because it is. Once you are really ok with it and thankful for all the lessons learned feel free to ask it to move out of your child. Tell it that "It's ok to move on now that you have taught me so much. It is ok to stay still, but I just want to let it know that I am also ok with you moving on." If you don't understand this most crucial part I would recommend a phone consult with Option. This is the foundation of the Son-Rise program and I think is very useful in all areas of life, not just the playroom. Love and accept, be thankful for the learning and ok with what is now, while wanting and striving for something else. Hope this helps a little bit.
