ism laughing is a typical autistic trait and a lot of people struggle with it. It's tricky because you want to make a clear difference between appropriate and inappropriate laughing. We've gone through this for years and years...it'll go away for awhile, then re-emerge. Since our daughter's finally gotten older, and more verbal, we've worked with her on "What's funny? Why are you laughing?" Now it always works, that she'll stop laughing and think about a response, say it, then that seems to break the routine and she "snaps out of it." Her answers are great too! Sometimes she'll just give a rote response, like "the street is funny" which we accept because any verbalization is ok. But since she's had a lot of practice, now she usually gives us her true reasons...and what a whacky sense of humor she has! It's so neat...it's really revealed to us what she finds funny...like a yard ornament, or the dog chewing one of her toys, or a certain picture in a book. But finally, we're able to truly join in with her laughing! Hope this helps...I know it's a tough one!! Best wishes...
