That is my main problem, I expect--trying to please everybody, and not create any tension in the world around me. I don't like trouble. I don't do drugs, or alcohol, or get into that type of stuff that gets me into trouble--I even plan on waiting till my wedding night for...well, ahem.
Forcing myself to face my fears is often very hard. After reading Son-Rise and a couple of books like it, I understood that I was imagining things about what people were thinking about me that, most likely, they weren't. And though I understand it, I still struggle. It might not be a fear I will ever really get rid of, but I do also know enough of myself to understand that I have the courage and the gumption to face what comes my way. It is one of the personal strengths I have that keep my anxiety around others from taking over my life. Books like this have helped me realize that.
Someday, I would not mind visiting the Option Institute, just to look it over. I could never stay, since my financial situation renders that placement out of the question. But one day I would like to meet the Kaufmans, shake their hand, and thank them for helping me to see my own inner strengths I have to get through daily life.
As for the Son-Rise program--I think it is wonderful. It isn't just trying to "cure" a child of Autism--because it is as much a way for parents to explore themselves and find their inner joys, and the joys of their children, as it is trying to have their child understand that above all, no matter what they choose for life, they are loved. And love is one of the most beautiful messages God has given us. And, because we have love, we also have hope. Hope and love are two of the best sheilds we can have to get us through the worst of times....by making it the best of times.
