: Hi Lisa, Gaylen has had far & away more experience with this, but I am a cheapskate so I went with cheap (68 cents/sq.ft) white linoleum with big squares, gray lines from Menards. We put it over a medium density carpet padding over a concrete floor. We then put 3/4" x 6" redwood boards (got free from neighbors - recycled) for basemolding. The wide wood is nice for bouncing balls off of! We did have to put in a seam, but it was not much trouble at all. Not proffesional, but you get what you can afford. One thing we would do different is get carpet padding that did not have hard bits of rubber in it since they tend to be felt as you play on the floor. With limited use of the room so far,(less than 100 hours) we have yet to see any problems. The key words I speak are CHEAP & EASY. Our room is 14' x 20', and the floor cost about $350 to put in. We do look at the flooring (as well as the walls) to be "expendable" since Thomas is into throwing things.
If your looking for inexpensive, and not permanent, it is a really soft floor to play on.
