Hi Anna!

One of the most effective things we did to get people comfortable with Ben's crying was to have them sit in a comfortable chair and relax to some nice calming music, and then switch it to a tape of Ben screaming his head off. Undoubtedly, the volunteers would open their eyes and adjust their bodies, and we would talk a little about what happened and how they felt. Then we would talk about the kind of response we wanted to give Ben when he started crying, and we challenged our people to get as calm and relaxed about his crying as they did about the nice music. Perhaps you'd want to throw in some words as well. The power of unconditional love that can be summoned under such circumstances can be SO STRONG - I hope your volunteer can hold onto it and let it take her as high as she can manage!!

Just like Gaylen's and Doug's posts below (thanks you guys!!), I believe that staying comfortable and grateful is the key to being the most effective we can be under "difficult" situations - it's all attitude!!

Good Luck! Kelly.
