: Someone mentioned in a previous post that some families do fund raising to get to go to the Son Rise courses. Do you know what kinds of fund raisers they do? I am very interested in going, but do not have that kind of money! : My son is twelve years old, nonverbal, not potty trained. The school system has not done a lot to improve his abilities. They are great people, but they can only do so much. : I really feel that this could be just what we have been waiting for. I recently read the book by Barry Kaufman, "Son Rise, The Miracle Continues." I can't believe I did not know about this book before now! I was so inspired just by reading the forward by Raun Kaufman that I took quotes from the book and copied them down just so I could post them around the house to keep me hopeful. : There have been so many times in the past twelve years when I have almost completely lost hope. The day I bought the book my husband tried to convince me to give up looking for a way to help our son recover. He hates to see me get so depressed. The book taught me that I don't have to feel that way if I don't choose to. Now I plan to take charge of our lives and make things happen. : Well, anyway... Thanks for any information you can offer. : Monica
Hi Monica, We have been to the start up programme in June past and we got there by fund raising. Myself and my daughter have been organizing several events, but first i would say you would need something printed up with details of your son and about son rise and a picture of your son. We had charity disco nights, bingo in the church hall, tombola's,keep fit clubs helped and we got a lot of help from our local police force who did some hill climbs.I also got permission from one of our super markets to run car boot sales every weekend and this really helped and is finishing this weekend. We are from Scotland and we have nearly got enough for the next programme so it's not impossible, but it is a lot of work writing to local firms and shops for any donantion or goods. I could send you copies of what we have done for my grandson Jamie to give you an idea ,so reply if you would like us to do this.
