Monica,

how wonderful for you that you feel such a nice fit with the Sun Rise programs. My wife and I found Option a few years ago and did not have a lot of money for program, so as a result we have done some fund raising with some nice results.

The first thing we found out was whatever we did do it big, I mean really promote the event and plan things so you have enough time to get it off the ground. The next thing we found was that by contacting local churches they can set up a tax exempt fund for your child, very helpful when getting donation from local businesses and people, donations are now tax deductable for them, it also lends credibility to your cause.

We have done a golf outing and are doing our second annual pig roast this weekend. At both events we got peoples names and that let us do a follow up with where the money we raised went, an up-date on Jake, and let them know about other events.

Please also be aware that Option has a packet of fund raising ideas along with scholorships, contact them for additional help.

: Someone mentioned in a previous post that some families do fund raising to get to go to the Son Rise courses. Do you know what kinds of fund raisers they do? I am very interested in going, but do not have that kind of money!
: My son is twelve years old, nonverbal, not potty trained. The school system has not done a lot to improve his abilities. They are great people, but they can only do so much.
: I really feel that this could be just what we have been waiting for. I recently read the book by Barry Kaufman, "Son Rise, The Miracle Continues." I can't believe I did not know about this book before now! I was so inspired just by reading the forward by Raun Kaufman that I took quotes from the book and copied them down just so I could post them around the house to keep me hopeful.
: There have been so many times in the past twelve years when I have almost completely lost hope. The day I bought the book my husband tried to convince me to give up looking for a way to help our son recover. He hates to see me get so depressed. The book taught me that I don't have to feel that way if I don't choose to. Now I plan to take charge of our lives and make things happen.
: Well, anyway... Thanks for any information you can offer.
: Monica
