It's great to hear John likes books. They can be a great way of helping him with some of his challenges, especially if you choose the ones he is really motivated by. I don't know specifically what his areas of challenge are, but by listening to you read, you are helping him stretch with his attention span and listening skills. You can ask him questions about what you read and what might happen next, and even challenge him to read and learn letters.
Nick did not like books until we went to our intensive two years ago (that was on of the great changes that week.) He now loves books, but it is still a challenge for him to listen.
