I found a very interesting article on the web last week about aspartame (Nutra Sweet) and it can trigger the auto-immune reponse that leads to autism. Symptoms of fibromyalgia...spasms, shooting pains, numbness in legs, cramps, vertigo, dizzines, headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, depression, anxiety, slurred speech, blurred vision or memory loss have been attributed to aspartame.
It has also been suggested that aspartame consumed at the time of conception can cause birth defects.
The phenylalanine in aspartame concentrates in the placenta causing brain defects.
(This is concentrating only on these particular concerns.......there is more in this report showing how aspartame is linked to Parkinsons disease, MS, blindness, weight gain!, brain tumors.
Throw away your diet drinks......my jar of sweetner went in the bin the same night I read this report that told me at 87o F, the wood alcohol in Aspartame converts to FORMALDEHYDE!!!!
I can't believe they let us put this rubbish in our bodies!

Does anyone know if any group is studying whether there is a link between Fibromyalsia in a mother & autism in a child?
: I ask because when I got the Great Plains Lab test kit for my son (his testing on gluten/casein was positive) there was literature that they also test people with Fibromyalsia. My symptoms first appeared when I was 5 months pregnant, but I just got the diagnosis on myself. My doctor seems to dismiss the idea, but Karyn Seroussi's Feb. 2000 article seems to suggest that there may be.
