: Yesterday evening Adam and I played with the 'white board' markers. Adam likes to sniff them, they smell awful but they are supposed to be non-toxic. We sniffed them, wrote on ourselves and eachother and ran around the room with them. He seems to get more obcessive with them as time went on. The more he understood that I wasn't going to stop him the more he did. Should I remove them from the room? It's hard for me to think thay I may have to go throuh that for months, years. Anybody's reply would be hepful. John
Dear John,
I wish I could see the two of you! It sounds like fun. The same sometimes happens with my son Remon. Before, when i did not like things, i used to do someting about it. Now, joining him. When he does something he has really fun with, i have fun with it to. I think it is the inter action that counts at that moment. And me (also a very newcommer, since februari 1999)did not see Remon do anything for very long. What i mean is that for him, us joining him is so very exciting, that if he finds out, i join him with everything, he started something else. Like he wants to check out, if we really joined him, or just in certain games.
At this moment, (the last 2 weeks) He does not seem to want any toys. Just the wooden blocks. He puts them in a certain kind of build, position, against the wall. When thats oke by him, he now (for 2 hours!!!) is very busy with us, singing, rocking, sitting on our lap, our on the floor between my legs, agains my tummy. Or behind me, on a pillow, singing, and dancing. Holding me as tight as he can. Me squeezing him. He really really enjoys, the time, (as it seem) the interactions, and so on.
Is it not so that this is new to both of you? And him finding out you joining him with a "silly" game. That is kind of wonderfull. Even for me two other daughters. If i join them in going crazy, bizar running around the room, they cant stop laughing, they screem in joy about their silly mother. When they do that, i continue with it, untill i am tired.
If Adam wants you to follow him running around the room, you maybe could challenge him, to "ask" you in his own way, to go on, If he does not like make eyecontact, you could start with asking him, to look at you, and when he does, thank him for looking, cheer him on, and follow him.And then he will learn, if he looks at you, he can get something done! Wow
I hope you can do something with this information.
Good Luck, and have fun.
Yvette
