Your question is the exact one I originally used with my doctor before my son, Reyn, was diagnosed at age 3 1/2. I had a friend who's little boy is mildly autistic and I saw some simularities with Reyn but he wasn't nearly as bad. I kept saying that it was like he was autistic, but not. And do you know what? I was right. Technically, he's not. He's PDD-NOS leaning towards Hyperlexia. If that isn't vague I don't know what it. I guess that's why they call them autistic spectrum disorders because, like the colours of the rainbow, they tend to overlap. Our children can't be categorized as red, yellow, or blue--some are turquoise, peach, or purple! I think you'll find you have many things in common with the other parents on this board. I find them helpful, and hopeful. I think you can gain alot through the use of the Son-rise principles whether you choose to run a proper program or not. I haven't been to the institute, nor do I run a proper program, but I feel I'm being taught to see my son in a new light and I find the support here wonderful. Welcome! :~) DeeAnn
