I've signed up for the sunrise startup in Feb, 2001, and am looking for anyone who has gone through it or is knowledgable about it. I'm wondering what the differance is between the sunrise program, and autism programs school districts offer. I know that no two districts are the same, but are most likely similar. My daughter is Autistic, and going to private school this year. The only services the public schools would give her was 1 hour a week of speech, and 1 hour a month of physical therapies, and in a regular kindergarten class. We tried to get more, but they didn't feel it was necessary. When we told them she was diagnosed autistic (this was just a few weeks ago), they said that it wouldn't change anything they were doing for her. In fact, they feel she is able to walk the three blocks to the bus stop, and back, by herself. If something should happen (I also have an 18 month old and a 3 month old, so you know it will happen), the bus will just drop her off and leave her to find her own way home. Should a butterfly cross her path, she would be gone, chasing it. So, for her safety and my piece of mind, she is in private school, 5 minutes from my husbands job. Needless to say, I already have little faith in our school system, I want to do the sonrise method, but would also like to find ongoing support here after it. I live in Kansas, if anyone knows anything about sonrise vs school systems, or of any schools in Kansas that would be good for her while we also implement the sonrise, I would greatly appreciate any info. Please email me at:"a">so much, Melissa
