Extraordinary Parents is a newsletter packed with information that is useful specifically for families who are doing a home-based program and have children with autism, or other disorders on the autism spectrum. With a tagline of "a newsletter for parents cultivating an uncommon attitude with their special needs children," Extraordinary Parents focuses on all of the challenges that arise when doing a home-based program. Written in a clear, easy to understand style, contributing editors touch on such topics as: How We Can Encourage our Children to Converse, When to "Lead" and When to "Follow," Using the Room as a Model for Fundraising, Spicing Up Your Group Meetings, Why Eye Contact Is So Difficult For Children With Autism, (written by someone with autism), Vision Therapy, Sensory Integration, Teaching Social Understanding, What to Do About a Difficult Repetitious Behavior such as Vomiting, plus inspiring stories and poetry from parents such as Shara Ouston, Scott Sanes and others and volunteers involved in Son-Rise home-based programs. The editor, Pauline Banducci, is a mother who directed a remarkable Son-Rise program for 10 years. Cost of the newsletter is $50/year for 6 issues.
