We do it like this. First they come and watch me playing and I get a experienced volunteer to cmment on whats going on. Then the volunteer goes in and I come out and comment for 5 minutes and use the remaining time to brief them about what to expect when they go in, and some concrete suggestions of what to do say. eg I might say OK looks like Robert is in his fort so you could go in say" Hi" what your name is, how excited you are to come into his special room and maybe make yourself afort too and tell him. I'd emphasize that the important thing was to concerntrate on being easy, userfriendly predictable and loving.....and remind them to have fun. I also might say something like there was nothing they could do wrong and if in doubt join. I used to pratle on for ages before a volunteer went in for the first time but really all you want to do is give them enough information to have a go and their specific training needs just seem to emerge as the weeks go on. I increase time very much dependent on the volunteer and never do a feedback infront of Robert. Lots of luck.....your at the start of an amazing adventure
