: Hello!
: Paul is still having a mildly itchy tongue. I have restricted his diet of sugar the best that I can (no fruit, low sugar cereal: 3 Gms., low carbohydrates and starches). He's eating mostly protein and vegetables. We put him on Nystatin and the itchyness continued, so now we are going to introduce Diflucan and Biocidin. We plan on rotating them, one each day. Does anyone have any experience with this or these drugs or rotating these drugs. The wierdest thing is, Paul never had any signs of yeast overgrowth UNTIL we gave him Nystatin in the first place. Love, Lisa

Nice job cutting back on the sugar. I take it he does NOT drink juice either? There is a lot of sugar in juice. I only have tried Nystatin with Brenen with minimal results. I think Jen has some experience with Biocidin. The diet was most helpful, however others have said both Diflucan and Biocidin have helped a little. The problem I see with the anti-fungals is that as soon as your child is off of them, the yeast comes back. Now, the "new" yeast is probably even stronger because it eventually becomes resistant to the drugs. I applaud your efforts and pray that your therapy gets rid of all the yeast.

Also, I would suggest as always, try "natural" methods as well. Liquid garlic, Cranberry juice extract, MCT oils, and Lactobacillus will all help keep the yeast count down. A strong immune system is the BEST way to keep these little bugs in check. I don't really believe we can ever get rid of them all. I don't think we need to as well. The key is just to keep the numbers down. By enhancing the immune system in our kids, we hopefully can do that. I assume you are using vitamins. Have you tried Secretin? Why does that work in many kids? Why only for a short time? The big answer you hear is that is stimulates the pancrease to secrete digestive enzymes. That is true, but I think what really helps is that the secretin changes the Ph of the gut and the "bugs" have a tough time living in a diiferent environment. Maybe a lot die off and Boom, the child is better because these bugs are not excreting there damaging neurotoxins. But the Ph goes back after a while if not on the secretin all the time and the child regresses again. When we did infusions, Brenen kept his gains, but the attention span and isms went back to "normal". His stool would be good for a while then go back to mushy. Only when we tried the oral secretin did his poops finally stay firm and his attention span went up a level. Sorry to go off on a tangent, but I would try the oral secretin if you have not done so.

Lastly, I would "thank" the little buggers for coming and let them know you appreciate all they have "taught" you. Now, it is OK if they go. It is OK if they want to stay, and you accept them as they are, however, with that acceptance you really, really, really, really, (that's four) want to invite them to move on. Tell them it is, of course their choice, and again thank them for teaching you all they have. I hope you understand my thoughts. I think that was the most important thing I did to help get Brenen's stool back to normal after 1 1/2 years of runny mush.

Probably not the answer you were looking for, but I hope it helps in some way.
Bram
