We did work with Curtis for about a year using what we'd gleaned from the books before we attended our Family Intensive (at that time they did not have Start-Up Programs). He made more progress with me doing that than he had with the other methods but we did miss some key things that we could only get from the training. He made MUCH more progress after our training. So I say, go for it. Do the best you can with what you have to work with. Set up a room, be loving and respectful of your child, follow his lead, build when he gives you openings and most of all stay comfortable and appreciative. You're starting really early so whatever you do with love and a positive attitude will go a long way. Use this board to get a better feel for the program and ideas and try to find some Son-Rise families in your area for extra support. Where do you live?

As you're doing this, contact Option about possible help with funding, contact your county Mental Health Department for assistance (our state has an In-Home and Family Services Division that helps us in funding our program), talk to family, friends, churches and anyone you can think of for donations and consider holding a fundraiser. If it's meant to be, you'll find a way. Good luck!
