: Our four year old autistic son has just not only shown but also verbalised that he knows what the potty is for. Wow I am so excited!

: Aaron has now talked about it and shown that he understands what the potty is for but not taken the giant step into putting all this into action! Any ideas as to how we could help him do this?

: My feeling is that it may be a confidence issue. So how could we help him to dare to "take the plunge"?

: With gratitude,

Hi Laura

I was told that my son Jake would not be potty trained until he was nine. He is only 41/2 and I trained him in 3 weeks. He is not a child to sit so I would put a container under him while he was standing and say wees and he was fascinated to see it go into to the container and I rewarded him with lollies. Eventually I took the container next to the toilet and so on. I had spent months with him on the potty with us both get upset and frustrated and with such a simple idea it was a win win.
