The Son-Rise Program® Start-Up in PORTUGAL

Thanks to Vencer Autismo staff and founders Susana Silva and Jose Santos, 78 Moms, 32 Dads, 1 Grandmother, 19 Caretaking Professionals and 7 Volunteers have just completed Portugal’s first Son-Rise Program Start-Up. Imagine 151 people from 8 countries including: Portugal, Brazil, UK, China, Austria, Spain, Germany and Angola all seeing possibilities for their children that did not exist before…Never giving up hope.
 As William Hogan, Executive Director of Programs at the Autism Treatment Center of America writes of his teaching experience in Portugal… "Not Lost in Translation … What an amazing and wonderful experience it was to see 151 parents and caring professionals gather together to learn how to take The Son-Rise Program back to the children in their lives. What was particularly wonderful was that almost everyone was wearing headphones, as our English language Program was being simultaneously translated into Portuguese and Spanish. The impact of the week was exactly the same as a non-translated program. The beauty of The Son-Rise Program and its message of love, acceptance and empowerment, is that no matter what language you speak, your religion, race, etc., it is always understood and readily embraced."

Introducing Vencer Autismo our Portuguese Partners
Susana Silva and Joe Santos are the quintessential Son-Rise Program parents; they fully live The Three E's and are forces of nature.
When Susana first contacted the Autism Treatment Center of America about her daughter Carolina’s challenges, little did any of us know that she and her partner Joe Santos would bring The Son-Rise Program Start-Up to Portugal this year.
"I have a 10 year old daughter that was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. She has lots of problems with social skills and it seems like she’s "stuck" in situations that do not interest other people in general or interest the other kids her age. She has no interest in playing with other children and doesn’t have friends at school. Can you help me with more information or tips so I can work with her? Is there any place in Portugal where I could learn more of your program?"

There was no place, no Son-Rise Program in Portugal, in 2010 but there certainly is in 2011 thanks to Susana’s and Joe’s amazing drive and commitment to help Portuguese parents wanting the best future for their children. The non-profit Vencer Autismo was born in 2011 while Susana and Joe worked full time, commuted between Oporto in the north and Lisbon in the south, and ran a full-time Son-Rise Program for daughter Carolina.Vencer Autismo hosted Raun K. Kaufman for a whirlwind lecture tour in Lisbon, Oporto and Madrid this June, with over 1,100 people attending to learn more about The Son-Rise Program.

Close to one hundred parents have already signed up for the October 26-30 Son-Rise Program Start-Up which will be held near Lisbon in Troia. Our Senior Teachers, Bryn Hogan (Executive Director of the Autism Treatment Center of America) and William Hogan (Executive Director of Programs) will be teaching a full Son-Rise Program Start-Up in English with simultaneous translation in both Portuguese and Spanish. This is a superb opportunity for parents in Portugal, the UK, or throughout Europe to learn the core principles and to get started with a Son-Rise Program of their own.
